One Million Trees
to Finland

The initiative originates from the Silence Project as an act to plant trees. Planting trees is a contemporary art practice as well as a collective, concrete action to fight the climate crisis. When trees grow they absorb and store carbon dioxide driving the global heating. During their life span on the planet, they teach us how to root and provide us with life-supporting oxygen. Forest bathing is one of the easiest ways to reconnect with nature and our own self.

Planting trees is a sign of hope in dark times. Everybody is invited to become a member of the new planting movement for Finland. 2020 we will embark into a new decade. Let’s see what we can achieve together. Day by day. Tree by tree. We harvest what we seed. Let’s plant a better, a greener reality.

The first tree planting action was organized outside the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki in September 2019 in collaboration with Harviala Oy and Måndag, In cooperation with City of Helsinki, The Finnish Association of Landscape Industries and Finnish Environment Institute ( Syke) and Frame Contemporary Art Finland. Next year the project will continue in cities all over in Finland. New partners and supporters include EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art and Exhibition Centre WeeGee
