Nina Backman’s continuing performance series, Silence Meal took place as part of the Can Reon vineyards cultural festival in Tiana, near Barcelona. Already presented in a range of extraordinary venues across Europe, Silence Meal experiments with silence as a method to increase intensity and sharpen the senses. The format gives the participating dinner guests an opportunity to experience what happens when all spoken interaction stops and is replaced by a community of silence.
The performance
The festival at Can Reon provides a perfect backdrop for artists addressing new contemporary experiences, fusing traditional themes with new digital works where play, art, food, and performance come together in a natural setting. With this framing the Can Reon Silent Meal promises a groundbreaking exploration of the interplay between nature, art, and technology.
The food served in connection with the Silence Meal will be prepared by Finnish chef Sami Tallberg, who excels in seasonal, visually delightful menus created with a range of exquisite locally sourced ingredients.
